Last year, 25 billion paper coffee cups, 13 billion plastic coffee pods, and 27 million coffee-specific plastic bags were added to our landfills.
The average coffee farmer was paid only $2 per day. Keep in mind that these are long, hot, brutal days.
These same farmers, in attempts to support their families, resort to using strong pesticides that are extremely harmful to the soil, the ecosystem, the coffee, and the people.
The pesticides most commonly used in non-organic coffee plantations are known to cause cancer, respiratory arrest, and birth defects. We want to change this standard.
Roastiva blends are all certified organic, meaning none of those harmful pesticides are allowed at the plantations. Additionally, we only carry certified fair trade coffees while also donating to our coffee growers directly. This ensures that at least 20% of what you pay us goes directly to the farmer who grew your coffee. We also do not use any plastic packaging or shipping materials. If it’s not reused, it’s not used at all.
Finally, 5% of our profit is donated to a local charity that you as a coffee club member vote on at the end of the year.
